- Fire ant colonies average 100,000 to 500,000 workers whose sole job is to protect & feed the queen.
- A single colony may have dozens of queens, each capable of laying up to 1500 eggs per day, 365 days a year for 7 years!
- Mounds are the visible part of the colony and are located in almost any type of soil.
- Mounds can extend into the ground 20 feet or more, with lateral tunnels extending our over eight feet in all directions.
- An entire colony can relocate 300 ft – overnight.
- Venom of the fire ant is unlike that of any other stinging insect. Hypersensitive persons suffer chest pains or nausea and children can be extra sensitive. Persons who react severely to a fire ant sting should see a physician immediately.
